STATUTES The name of the Association shall be the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology, with IACCP as the authorized abbreviation. 2.1 The aims of the IACCP are to: facilitate communication and cooperation among cross-cultural psychologists; further the advancement of knowledge about psychological functioning of humans in all human societies; seek out the role of culture in the shaping of human behavior; test the generalizability of theories from all branches of psychology and related disciplines in all human societies; encourage the development of valid measurement techniques and research methodology in cross-cultural psychology; encourage the incorporation of the knowledge and expertise gained by cross-cultural psychology into the main body of psychology; and develop and promote the application of psychological knowledge to social phenomena and problems in all countries. 2.2 For these purposes the Association shall: hold regional and international conferences; publish reports, journals, monographs, and newsletters; affiliate with other organizations in pursuit of common aims and appoint delegates or representatives to such organizations; establish ethical standards for cross-cultural research; and engage in such other activities as may be necessary for the furtherance of its aims and objectives. Through a vote of the Executive Council and approval by the General Meeting, the Association may authorize the establishment of subdivisions of the Association on a regional, national, or functional basis. 3.1 There shall be the following categories of members: 3.1.1 Honorary Fellows. Members who have made a distinguished contribution to the advancement of cross-cultural psychology and a continued and substantial contribution to the IACCP. 3.1.2 Fellows. Members of at least seven years standing who have made a substantial contribution to the advancement of cross-cultural psychology through research, writing, or teaching and/or have made a major contribution to the activities of IACCP. 3.1.3 Members. Persons who have a major academic qualification in psychology or other related academic disciplines and who show evidence of interest in cross-cultural psychology. 3.1.4 Student Members. Undergraduate and graduate students who are studying or carrying out research in the area of cross-cultural psychology or related disciplines. 3.2 Admission to each of the above categories of membership shall be determined by the Executive Council. 3.2.1 Criteria for determining eligibility in each of these categories shall be as laid down in the By-laws. 3.2.2 The rates of annual dues for the categories of Fellow, Member, and Student Member shall be as laid down in the Standing Orders. 3.2.3 No applicant shall be considered to have become a member unless the specified dues to the association have been received by the Treasurer. 3.2.4 Honorary Fellows shall be elected in accordance with the procedures laid down in the By-laws and shall not be required to pay any dues to the Association. The officers of the IACCP shall be the President, the Immediate Past President, the President-Elect, the Secretary General, the Deputy Secretary General, and the Treasurer. 5.1 The Executive Council, hereinafter called the Council, shall be responsible for dealing with all matters of the administration of the Association. 5.2 The membership of the Council shall comprise:
5.3 The method of election and duration of office of members of the Council shall be as laid down in the By-laws. 5.4 The powers and duties of the Council shall be as laid down in the By-laws. The IACCP shall hold three kinds of meetings, to be called: General Meetings, Extraordinary General Meetings and Scientific Meetings respectively. 6.1 The General Meeting of the Association shall be held once in every two years. At this meeting the business transacted generally shall include reports from the Secretary General, the Treasurer, the Standing Committees and, if there is anything noteworthy to report, the Regional Representatives. 6.2 Extraordinary General Meetings may be held for a specific purpose as directed by the Council or upon the request of at least ten percent of all voting members. 6.3 Scientific Meetings shall be convened from time to time for the presentation of scientific papers and related activities. A Scientific Meeting called the IACCP International Congress shall ordinarily be held once every two years. The General Meeting of the Association shall be held during each IACCP International Congress. 6.4 The procedures for calling General, Extraordinary General and Scientific Meetings shall be as laid down in the By-laws. All meetings using the name of the Association must be authorized by the Council. 7. Amendments to the Constitution 7.1 Amendments to the Constitution may be made by voting at a General Meeting or Extraordinary General Meeting or by postal ballot. 7.2 Amendments to the Constitution put to a General or Extraordinary General Meeting must be passed by a three fifths (60 percent) majority of votes cast by those present and eligible to vote. 7.3 The Constitution may be amended by postal ballot provided that one fourth (25 percent) of voting members in good standing cast a vote on a proposed amendment and the amendment is approved by three fifths (60 percent) of the votes cast. 7.4 An amendment to the Constitution may be proposed by the Council or by twenty members in good standing. The Council shall have the proposed amendment circulated to the members with sixty days clear notice of an amendment to be put before a General Meeting or Extraordinary General Meeting, or sixty days for the return of postal ballots. The result of a postal ballot shall be announced at the next General Meeting or Extraordinary General Meeting. 7.5 An approved amendment shall become effective immediately upon adoption and shall supersede and nullify all previous provisions that may be in conflict with it. 7.6 The Constitution with all its provisions shall be effective immediately upon adoption by the General Meeting or Extraordinary General Meeting and shall supersede and nullify all previous provisions in conflict with them and all amendments and provisions not mentioned herein. 8. Dissolution of the Association 8.1 The IACCP may be dissolved by a two-thirds (67 percent) majority vote at an Extraordinary General Meeting called for that purpose or by a two-thirds (67 percent) majority in a postal ballot provided that in each case at least one fourth (25 percent) of the eligible members in good standing cast a vote. 8.2 In the event of dissolution, after payment of all just debts and obligations, the remaining assets shall be distributed to other associations with similar interests and compatible aims and objectives in such a manner as the Council decides. |
