The Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology publishes papers that focus on the interrelationships between culture and psychological processes. Submitted manuscripts may report results from either cross-cultural comparative research or results from other types of research concerning the ways in which culture (and related concepts such as ethnicity) affect the thinking and behavior of individuals as well as how individual thought and behavior define and reflect aspects of culture. Also welcome for consideration are review papers and innovative reformulations of cross-cultural theory. Manuscripts reporting data from within a single nation should focus on cultural factors and explore the theoretical or practical relevance of their findings from a more broadly cross-cultural perspective. Empirical studies must be described in sufficient detail to be potentially replicable. Authors who are uncertain about the appropriateness of particular manuscripts should contact the Editor or Senior Editor.

Manuscripts should be submitted in quadruplicate to Fons van de Vijver, Department of Psychology, Tilburg University, 5000 LE Tilburg, the Netherlands. Electronic submissions should be sent to Fons van de Vijver. Acceptable text formats for electronic submission are: Microsoft Word (for Windows), Rich Text Format, and Adobe Acrobat (PDF). Manuscript length should normally be 15 to 35 double-spaced, typewritten pages. Longer papers will be considered and published if they meet the above criteria. The American Psychological Association's Publication Manual (5th ed.) should be followed when preparing manuscripts. Manuscripts are reviewed by the Editorial Advisory Board. We also publish Brief Reports, which should be no more than 10 double-spaced manuscript pages long. Allow up to 3 months for a publication decision and up to 1 year for publication.

JCCP's masthead policy includes the publication of special issues or special sections of regular issues. Current needs, emerging trends, and readership interest will guide the publication of special issues or special sections. Inquiries concerning ideas about topical coverage should be addressed to Walter J. Lonner, Senior Editor, Department of Psychology, Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA 98225, U.S.A.

The Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology (ISSN 0022-0221) is published six times annually--in January, March, May, July, September, November--by Sage Publications, Inc., 2455 Teller Road, Thousands Oaks, CA 91320. JCCP was inaugurated in 1970. Beginning in 1973, Sage published it for the Center for Cross-Cultural Research at Western Washington University, the copyright holder. Since 1972, it has been associated with the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology by special permission.

Many university libraries carry the Journal, and it can be obtained from most others through interlibrary loan services. Alternately, reprints of individual articles may be requested directly from authors. Finally, preparations for an online version of JCCP are in the final stages.

Social Science Citation Index ranking: JCCP has a high ranking in the social psychology journals where it is listed by the Institute for Scientific Information and tends to have the highest impact factor of the several psychology journals that focus to varying degrees on the interface between the individual and his or her culture.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR PROSPECTIVE AUTHORS

The Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology (JCCP) publishes material in four categories: 1) regular, unsolicited manuscripts, 2) brief reports, 3) special issues, and 4) book reviews. Summary details of each category are as follows:

Regular, Unsolicited Manuscripts. This is JCCP's main emphasis. Manuscripts can be submitted either in printed (mailed) or digital (E-mail) form. Please do not use both forms for the same manuscript. A submission should always be accompanied by a cover letter. Printed manuscripts should be submitted in quadruplicate to the editor:

Department of Psychology
Tilburg University
P.O. Box 90153

Acceptable text formats for electronic submission are: Microsoft Word (for Windows), Rich Text Format, and Adobe Acrobat (PDF). Electronic versions may be used for communicating with reviewers. Authors are responsible for the editing of the manuscripts. JCCP cannot be held responsible for formatting errors in the manuscript resulting from routine processing by the editorial board or reviewers. Electronically-submitted manuscripts should be sent to the editor at fons.vandevijver@uvt.nl.

Unsolicited manuscripts can vary in length; typically they range from 15 to 35 double-spaced manuscript pages. Manuscripts should be of sufficient length to ensure theoretical and methodological competence, should be focused, and should avoid redundancy. Manuscripts must be in English and accompanied by an abstract not exceeding 125 words. Bibliographic citations should follow the current journal style. Formatting and bibliographic citations should follow the journal's format, which is based upon the specifications of the American Psychological Association. These can be found in the American Psychological Association Publication Manual (5th ed.). Information about these guidelines can also be found at various Internet sites, such as
