About the Cover Photo
Contributed by the Editor

My daughter, Annamarie, is almost indistinguishable from the unknown Afghan girl on the March 1997 cover. She is preparing for a Kindergarten Thanksgiving drama, in which children enact an important event in the English colonization of North America. Annamarie's ancestors emmigrated to the United States from Europe and Asia over the period 1892 to 1971. The Thanksgiving drama symbolizes the immigrant roots of 99% of Americans. (Photo: 1989)
